
Achievements for 2024/2025
Another year gone and it is time to take stock of our activities and thank our President Tony De Fazio, for his leadership in harnessing the endeavours of his wonderfull crew, Proud of our 90 years of service, Progressive and Engaged with some of the projects the Rotary Club of Essendon was involved in his Rotary year 2024/2025.
1 Support of the AHASIA GROUP with a grant to support a paid speech pathologist.
2 YOUTH PROJECTS support with sleeping bags and blankets.
3 Donations of small goods from Pinchapoo to YOUTH PROJECTS in Glenroy and to local schools.
Further support to YOUTH PROJECTS with underwear and socks for the homeless and needy.
4 Support of Ukrainian refugees with picnic at the Zoo for their children and the production of "Documenting the journey of young Ukrainian refugees through Art".
5 Support of CAROLINE CHISHOLM with baby clothes.
6 Establishment of the annual GREAT ROTARY DUCK RACE race on the Maribyrnong River.
7 Supporting an indigenous medical student to train in psychiatry via our own NORM MOLLICA Mental Health Fund and Australia Rotary Health.
8 Hosting an aspiring youth worker from the Ruben Centre in the slums of Kenya to gain experience in dealing with youth problems as seen in Australia.
9 Monetary and equipment support to Ruben Centre and Mukuru Slum School in Kenya.
10 Supporting BAHA TULUYAN, a local Phillipines organisation in Manila protecting children's rights especially the homeless,.
11 Providing 120 family Survival kits for earthquake victims in MYANMAR where we have over 15 years provided help for the Childrens Hospital, provision of Oxygen concentrators during the COVIC epidemic, help with food for Hope for Myanmar Children's Home , provided road access to an orphanage, and this year the renovation of the play/sports area at the MARY CHAPMAN SCHOOL OF THE DEAF. We also supported the STEP-IN STEP-UP organisation to help with with child education so that they can be gainfully employed and avoid child exploitation especially body-part theft.
12. Provision of solar study lights for students in Myanmar to study at night due to daily electricity outages.
13 Working bee at WESTERN EMERGENCY RELIEF NETWORK who provide emergency relief with goods for marginalised families.
14 Support of 2 student of the year awards at KANGAN INSTITUTE.
15 Year 11/12 student grant to help with their education at Buckley Park College and Rosehill College.
15. Distributing Childrens toys from DONATIONS IN KIND for inmates of the Melbourne Remand Centre.
16 Organising the annual ROTARY MOONEE VALLEY ART SHOW for artists to showcase their art.
17 Support of the Men's Shed Strathmore.
A very busy programme.
Whilst our fundraising helps we would not have been able to achieve these projects without the generous support of the STRATHMORE COMMUNITY BANK BRANCH of BENDIGO BANK and ROTARY INTERNATIONAL'S District Grants programme and we gratefully thank them.
