Moonee Valley Art Show

The Moonee Valley Art Show Gala night, a joint effort of the Rotary Clubs of Essendon and Keilor East, was held on May 19 2023 at the Gymnasium of the St Bernards College. The Gala was well supported despite the cold and wet weather and generously sponsored by Andrew Peace Wines, Bendigo Community Bank Keilor East and Ryman Healthcare amongst eleven other donors.

One hundred percent of the event’s proceeds will go to local and international Rotary projects.

Of note students from a number of surrounding schools submitted art to this Art Show, with Harcourts Vision providing an East Keilor Students Award. Therese Wilson, the Deputy Principal of St. Bernard’s College was very excited to work with Rotary, given both share a beautiful synergy of purpose and that art develops  capacities across creativity, imagination and intellectual growth.

The Art Show judge David Wemyss-Smith judged the art on originality, aesthetic appeal, impact, communication and technical merit and selected Mill of Mystery as Best in Show, reminiscent of Jeffrey Smart's stark images with bold primary colours and dark skies.

Runner up was The Cellist.

The Art Show catalogue listed three hundred and fifty four paintings available for viewing and purchase with an average price of $887. Prices ranged from $60 to $8950.

The Rotary Clubs of Essendon & Keilor East thank all who participated in the Art Show and especially our many sponsors, to make this a successful function to provide support to the vulnerable in our community and internationally.
