YANGON GENERRAL HOSPITAL
We travelled to the Yangon General Hospital for presentation and delivery of medical equipment (RCE paid for approx $50,000 of Medical equipment). The equipment included the Oxygen Concentrators x 6 and specialized Operating Theatre Fumigation equipment.
Nola Spicer our RCE Board member representative gave a magnificent speech to the YGH Board members which was warmly received. The YGH CEO thanked us so much for the medical equipment donation and presented Nola with a superb framed gem stone picture which she said she would treasure always.
We then toured the hospital looking at the most outdated hospital wards you could ever see and saw the medical equipment RCE had previously donated to the Emergency Dept where we met some of the Doctors who remembered our previous visitations in 2016.
THE MYANMAR LIVER FOUNDATION
All the delegates carried with them many syringes and needles (approx. 40 kg) donated from Australian Hospitals, all were excellent quality and valued at over $10,000. We took them to The Myanmar Liver Foundation which they will use for vaccinations for poor people for Covid19, HIV and HEP B & C vaccinations.
The clinic is run by an all - volunteer Doctor service. The patients were lined up out of the clinic so the demand for the vaccination services is huge. We toured the clinic and saw the portable CAT Scan machine which the RCE had donated in 2019. We also held talks with the Doctors and staff about their future needs. We also donated approx. 900,000 kyats which the RCE had agreed to donate for the clinic’s consumables for the lab tests that they undertake.
We were joined by the President Elect from the Rotary Club of Yangon who was very impressed by the clinic and we discussed a possible Joint Rotary Project for the Myanmar Liver Foundation in the future.
ROTARY CLUB OF YANGON
We all attended the RC Yangon’s regular meeting which we all met and chatted with all the members and enjoyed great fellowship. On another evening we went to dinner with a select few RC Yangon members which made for a lovely evening and some great contacts. Finally we were invited to join a few of the members the next morning at the Myanmar Golf Club for a round of golf which was fabulous.
MYANMAR CULTURE and FOOD
Apart from the RCE projects we visited many Temples and Pagoda’s in Yangon. Also we went to many local Myanmar restaurants and the local Museum as well as enjoying some well needed massages which were most enjoyable. We also visited the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery which was very moving.
Overall the delegates got to see a different side of life in Myanmar and see what vital work the Rotary Club of Essendon has been able to help with in this country.
